Diacarta

Product design, development and marketing for mobile application.

PROBLEM:

While in college, our client started his day by drawing a circle in the middle of each page of his Moleskin. Then he would draw pictures around the circle to chart out the day’s events. After using an iPhone with its great touch screen technology, he got the idea to develop an app based on his original idea. Our challenge was to develop a mobile application for iPhone that conveys client’s concept for a whole new way to plan your day. This application should allow people to visually plot out events in their day. For example, a meeting over coffee might be symbolized with a coffee cup. A trip to the gym symbolized by an arm making a muscle.

SOLUTION:

We were nearly done branding and designing this iPhone app under the name PopClock, when we decided it just wasn’t right. Working with the client, we renamed the app, Diacarta, a combination of the Spanish words for day and map. We then gave it a hard-working industrial look that had a visual resonance the original lacked. Once the design and user interface was done, we worked with developers in India to bring the client’s concept to life.

RESULT:

The client quickly sold nearly 15,000 units when the Diacarta app was released. Many of the major design blogs commented on the aesthetics of the app, including uncrate, well-placed pixels and notcot. Apple itself recognized the unique design and featured the app in the app store, as both German app of the week and one of the staff favorites in the U.K. The client is currently working on a version that syncs with the iPhone native calendar. When complete, this popular app should see even greater heights.

Open Doors Academy

CLIENT: Open Doors Academy

Open Doors Academy

Product design, development and marketing for mobile application.

PROBLEM:

An extremely successful organization that lacked brand awareness outside of its immediate sphere of influence. Awareness needed to be raised to increase its funding base and ensure its future success.

SOLUTION:

We developed a brand identity for Open Doors Academy by engaging the kids in the program to help us. Through working with the organization, we realized that the kids told the story best. So we had eight of the students work with us on the annual report.

RESULT:

Donations are up. Donors are calling for a second copy of the annual report. And key donors have shown increased interest in funding future branding efforts. The annual report won an ADDY at the AAF-Cleveland ADDY competition.
